Therapy Sessions

Our therapists provide intervention for your child in the comfort of your home!

Research has shown that substantial developmental gains in children with autism or developmental delays requires timely diagnosis and substantial hours of early intervention. At Ark, we believe that every child has the rights to effective early intervention.

We take a holistic approach in providing early intervention. We collaborate with psychologists, educators and families in order to ascertain the deficits and needs of your child.  Based on the individualised needs, we formulate customised goals and teaching plans.

What is ABA?

We apply Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles and focus on the areas of behaviour and emotion regulation, language and communication skills, play skills, social skills as well as self-help skills to provide a holistic early intervention for your child.  The end-goal is to provide purposeful skills for the child to live independently and make meaningful connections in the community.

ABA are principles driven by the concept of reinforcement or rewarding consequences. E.g. When a teacher wants to instruct his student to pack up toys, the teacher observes that his student is more motivated by certain rewards, e.g. praise, the teacher therefore provides praise to his student after the desired behaviour of packing up toys,  so that in the future, the student will be more motivated to pack up toys. In addition to the use of rewarding consequences, we also use fun and creative ways to motivate the children and increase their level of motivation for learning. While we advocate naturalistic ways of teaching, we adapt to the child's needs through systematic teaching. Should structured settings be necessary to facilitate the learning of challenging goals, there is always a fade plan in place to ensure that those structured settings are gradually faded  to natural settings to enable the child to use the mastered skills in his everyday situations.

Sometimes different individuals may require more tangible reinforcement or rewards to help them in their motivation for the learning of new skills.  E.g. the use of a token system,  a preferred toy or an immediate preferred activity after the completion of tasks. Regardless of the type of reinforcement, a fade plan of rewards is always in place to help students maintain skills and behaviors through the consequences in the natural environment without the need for huge amounts of external reinforcement.

Why ABA?

ABA is considered the most effective and evidence-based intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as for other developmental disorders such as ADHD and GDD. Researchers from Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute reviewed several evidence-based practices and found that ABA techniques have the most scientific support compared to other intervention methods.  A number of state and federal agencies in the US, including the Surgeon General of the United States and the New York State Department of Health, endorses ABA as an effective treatment for autism.

ABA is also recognised as the gold standard and recommended by the Ministry of Health Singapore.

Why Ark?

Our therapists are supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who are accredited by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB, US) to ensure that quality standard of ABA teaching is delivered consistently.
